Offloading parts production eliminates ’priority clashes’

Spare parts production often conflicts with the manufacture of main ‘catalogue’ products, creating delays in the availability of critical spares. In an attempt to enhance this customer’s service to its existing ‘end-users’, SMS was tasked to eliminate just such a ‘clash of priorities’.

By manufacturing its ‘legacy equipment’ spares on the same lines as its new products, this manufacturer of safety-critical products struggled frequently with resource issues. The result: a severe ‘spares’ availability problem which was adversely affecting its support to existing customers.

The Achievement

Transferring production of the firm’s spare sub-assemblies to SMS Technologies ensured the necessary parts would continue to be manufactured to established engineering standards. With production priority clashes a thing of the past, the field service team quickly returned to profit.
